Why You Should Have Apple Cider Vinegar Before A Meal

February 6, 2019 By Mike Thurstone

In recent years, apple cider vinegar has proven itself to be the most known vinegar within the health conscious community. But why is this?

Many agree it is because of its numerous health benefits. It can be used in recipes, as a medicine, to clean around your house, as skin care remedy…

People have even begun “taking shots” of apple cider vinegar first thing in the morning or before meals, and for those who can’t drink it straight, they dilute it in water.

Given the not so pleasant taste we all know vinegar has, these health benefits must be helpful for people to be willing to do this.

The following is a list of 3 main benefits of drinking apple cider vinegar:

It can lower blood sugar and fight diabetes

The meals we usually consume are rich in carbohydrates and processed sugars, and apple cider vinegar can help increase our insulin sensitivity, making it easier for our bodies to react to what we ate and adjust accordingly.

This means apple cider vinegar is perfect for people suffering from diabetes who need to stimulate their insulin production or even people with a tendency to have high blood sugar levels.

ACV suppresses the appetite.

Apple cider vinegar is loaded with acetic acid which turns to acetate and hydrogen once consumed. The acetate then reaches your brain and suppresses the centers that control your appetite, reducing your desire to eat.

An animal study published in the Journal of Agriculture and Food Chemistry fed mice a high-fat diet along with acetic acid, which is the ACV’s main component. Experts found that the mice had 10 per cent less body fat than control rodents. Researchers concluded that acetic acid turns on genes that trigger enzymes, breaking down fat and thus preventing weight gain.

It improves iron absorption.

Acetic acid, aside from suppressing our appetite, can also assist our bodies to release iron from the food we consume by simulating stomach acids and breaking down the foods.

Tip on how to take ACV

Combine two tablespoons of ACV (apple cider vinegar) with a cup of water and drink it before your midday meal every day. If you can’t stand the taste, mix it with some lemon juice and honey.
