With the way fashion changes every other month, one should not be surprised to see something new and unusual regularly. Different types of fashion come and go, while some stay for a while, whereas some are gone before we even know it.
However, in this entire lifetime of fashion, tattoos and piercings have never gone out of fashion. They are the epitome of coolness. You’ll find people with so many different kinds of tattoos and piercings in places you can’t even imagine. One of the unimaginable body parts to get pierced is the eyeball.
Where a few years ago, people would have given a lot of thought before they got a piercing, now the world is much more open-minded. The old stereotypes about them being unprofessional are slowly yet surely vanishing, giving people a sense of relief to experiment with new things.

The eyeball piercing is one of those new things. Technically, you get a tiny piece of jewelry implanted in your eye. It first became known when a New York woman got a tiny heart-shaped piercing implanted in her eyeball for a large price. She still does not have any regrets about it.
If one wants to know the details, the actual procedure consisted of the surgeon making a slit inside the membrane present on the white part of the person’s eyeball and then slipping the jewelry inside it. Apparently, the slit is too small even to need stitches. The surgeon who conducted the piercing experiment was actually looking for someone to try it on. He was more than happy to find a good-looking woman who would help his idea of this new type of piercing become famous.
Moreover, the surgeon, Dr. Emil Chynn, got his second customer to get an eyeball piercing after a few years. The customer had a 3mm by 4mm wide star-shaped platinum piercing implanted in her eye. The surgery is actually only a few minutes long, and it caused such chaos in the fashion trends that the price for the surgery went up by thousands, despite the uncomfortable feeling of it.
According to Dr. Chynn, the surgery is painless since the person is given anesthesia and the surface of the eyeball is sterilized to avoid any kind of infection. You can also get the jewelry removed, so you don’t need to worry about it being something permanent.

Even if the surgery reached national news, only two to three people in the entire US have gone through with it. It is cosmetic surgery, clearly not sought after for obvious reasons. Even though the surgeon has claimed it to be a safe surgery, the ophthalmology department of the US is not particularly in agreement with it. They have been vocal about the eye-related risks it holds, which include blindness due to infection.
All in all, there would never be a moment in one’s life when they would not be surprised by some new fashion trend. People have such different tastes and interests that even the most gruesome things will look fashionable to some.
