Firefighters Are Warning People Not To Leave Their Water Bottles in the Car

August 18, 2019 By Mike Thurstone

It is important to drink a lot of water during the day, and if you invest a great deal of time driving, then it is advisable to maintain water in your vehicle.

But you may wish to think twice about leaving a water bottle into your car or truck after hearing this story.

A video posted on an Idaho Power Facebook group shows that leaving a clear water bottle into your vehicle could potentially start a fire.

Dioni Amuchastegui explained that he discovered the light being refracted through a transparent water bottle while sitting in his vehicle.

Luckily, Dioni noticed prior to the chair really burst into flames, and the damage had been confined to two little burn marks on the chair.

The footage goes on to describe that a transparent, plastic water bottle full of water can function as a lens which concentrates the sunlight’s energy on a single stage. As time passes, there will become thicker and hotter before a fire starts to form on the cloth.

Even though this is quite a frightening and surprising circumstance, the video explains that basically everybody conveys water bottles inside their vehicles; however, it is crucial to make sure they are stored away from sunlight.

Maintaining your water at a lunch cooler, glove box, or any other place that is not exposed to sunlight are some of the steps to stop this from occurring.
