Are you tired of being sick all the time?
Maybe, I have a cure for you!
It is a widely known fact that there is no easy cure for the common cold. The first days you feel helpless and as time passes by you get better.
Despite this fact, you can try to relieve some of your symptoms and shorten the time needed to get better.
When you hear about this natural cure, you may feel mild astonishment or shock.
This remedy is whiskey or bourbon! Both of these beverages will help you in relieving your cold symptoms. (I am talking about people older than 21!)
Drinking A Little Whiskey Might Actually Help Relieve Cold Symptoms
You may have heard your grandparent recommending taking a shot of whiskey for some illness. Well, he was not wrong. This can actually do good for you.
A Hot Toddy Can Help Sniffles And Congestion
A hot toddy can do wonders when you have a cold. It is made of whiskey, honey, lemon juice, and hot water. The effects which it has on you are often compared with the impact of the chicken noodle soup. Both of this help if you have nasal congestion.
This hot toddy can be regarded as a natural cure due to the fact it has honey and lemon juice in it. Plus, you can enjoy some alcohol.
Whiskey can help when you are breathing heavily through the nose. The alcohol in it helps the blood vessels to dilate; thus, the mucus can fight the virus infection easier and faster.
How To Drink A Hot Toddy
However, I am not saying that you should go to the closest bar and order a bottle of Manhattan. Excessive alcohol consumption won’t make you feel better. Too much alcohol may dehydrate your body; the alcohol is a diuretic. When your body is dehydrated, you may feel thirsty; have terrible headaches, nausea and so on.
Imagine feeling sick ad hangover at the same time. Not the best feeling, right?
In order to relieve your cold symptoms you only need ONE hot toddy. Also, my advice for you is to drink much water, lemon water, hot herbal tea, chicken or vegetable soups, vitamin C-rich fresh orange juice and green juices.
How To Make A Hot Toddy
How it is made:
Ingredients:
- 1 oz (2 tablespoons) whiskey
- 1 or 2 tablespoons mild honey (or maple syrup for vegans)
- Two teaspoons fresh lemon juice
- 1/4 cup boiling-hot water
Directions:
Whiskey, honey, and lemon juice are put in a 6-ounce container. All of these are mixed and stirred with hot water until honey is dissolved.
Alternative Options
A fire cider vinegar is an alternative option which is non-alcoholic. You may use it if you don’t like alcohol or if you need hot toddy for an underage teen.
Fire Cider Recipe
What you need:
- One cup coarsely grated peeled horseradish (about 4 ounces)
- One small onion, coarsely chopped
- Nine large garlic cloves, smashed
- Half a cup peeled and coarsely grated or chopped ginger (about 3 ounces)
- 1 1/2 tablespoon ground turmeric
- One teaspoon black peppercorns
- Three rosemary sprigs
- One whole clove
- One lemon, quartered
- Two cups (or more) unfiltered apple cider vinegar
- Three tablespoons (or more) honey (or maple syrup)
How it is made:
The horseradish, onion, garlic, ginger, turmeric, peppercorn, rosemary, and clove are put in a quart jar.
Then, it would be best if you squeezed in the lemons. Next, pour vinegar over everything and close tightly for one month.
After one month, strain it through cheesecloth and squeeze out as much liquid as you can. Add the honey or maple syrup and shake it well.
For storage, it should be transferred into smaller bottles.
