How To Pack and Store Food In The Freezer and Avoid Freezer Burn – 5 TIPS

If you are one of those people that use the freezer regularly, the following will be a big eye-opener as to how the store and freeze of food properly without getting a freezer burn.

How many times have you taken a portion of food out of the freezer, only to realize that it is almost unatable, and completely destroyed by improper packing and storage?

To ensure your food freeze properly, check out the following tips.

 

1. The Colder The Freezer Is, The Better It Is

When you have a flactuating temperature within your freezer, it can lead to freezer burn. Ensure you maintain a constant temperature below 0 degrees, and avoid leaving the freezer door open for very long.

 

2. Let Your Food Cool Down First

A definite way to freezer burn the food is by putting it in the freezer when it’s still warm, or even hot. Before doing so, make sure whatever the food has cooled to at least room temperature before sealing and sticking it in the freezer.

 

3. Pack It Properly

Not all ingredients should be stored using the same containers. When using sealable or vacuum-sealed bags to try to squeeze out as much of the air as possible before sticking it in the freezer. Use plastic containers for soups and sauces, with a small volume of room at the top, as liquids expand when exposed to freezing temperature.

 

4. Stack Your Freezer Properly

Another tip for avoiding freezer burn is to maintain your freezer about 75% full! When other frozen foods surround foods, it will control the temperature and keep everything cold.

 

5. The Power Of Aluminum Foil

Aluminum foil serves perfectly if you don’t have an appropriate-size bag or container to freeze your food. Even if the food is already stored in a container or bag, wrapping it in an aluminum foil sheet will ensure it stays cold.
