This Is Açaí: Good for Your Skin, Improves Digestion Helps Losing Weight

January 20, 2019 By Mike Thurstone

In this article, we will examine the health benefits of açaí berry, known as a superfood because of its antioxidant properties.

If we were to rank all fruits to by nutritious value, açaí would be at the top of the list.

Originally from Brazil, Acia is considered by many to be a superfood due to its many health advantages.

Here are some of açaí’s benefits and a list of reasons to start adding it in your diet.

Rich in antioxidants

Do you know what antioxidants are?

Its the substance that protect our cells from free radicals.

A lot of it and free radicals can contribute to the development of chronic diseases such as atherosclerosis, diabetes, and high blood pressure, as well as certain degenerative diseases and even some types of cancer.

According to ORAC index, which measures the anti-oxidation capacity of foods, açaí ranks far higher than any other known fruit, up to four times more than the popular goji berries.

It’s good for your skin.

Apart from the antioxidants, açaí is also rich in zinc, which contains healing properties.

Açaí oil is primarily used in the making of cosmetics since it increases elasticity, hydrates, and prevents premature aging.

It improves digestion

A recent study conducted showed that eating açaí changed our intestines’ bacterial fermentation, increasing the protective effect on our organs.

Moreover, the researchers noted that the levels of good bacteria increased and the levels of bad bacteria decreased.

This unique fruit also contains fibre that can improve bowel movements and help to weight loss.

It’s good for your brain.

As we grow old, the oxidation and inflammation of our brain cells can negatively impact our learning capacity and memory. This is because our brain loses its ability to clean the toxic cells.

Açaí can improve this cleaning ability and protect the rest of our brain cells.

It fights cancer

Foods like açaí block cancerous cells from forming and spreading. In one study, açaí pulp was even able to reduce the occurrence of some types of cancer such as colon and bladder cancer.
It’s great for our heart

Açaí contains high levels of anthocyanin, a compound responsible for its strong coloring, which is also very beneficial for heart’s health.

Moreover, açaí is rich in phytosterols which help lower bad cholesterol levels and control blood pressure. Açaí is also known as a powerful aphrodisiac.

There are several other benefits by eating açaí, due to its a high nutrient content.

For instance, the calcium content in acai contributes to our bone and teeth health and the potassium is excellent at preventing painful cramps.

It’s important to note although it may contain all of these benefits, everything should be consumed in moderation, especially açaí, due to its caloric value.

Since it doesn’t taste as good on its own, most of the time it’s served mixed with other fruits and syrups that can contain lots of sugar.
