8 Foods You Should AVOID Freezing

March 26, 2019 By Mike Thurstone

If you are someone who buys food in bulk or just wants to store the leftovers for some later time, freezing it would be the obvious choice. However, while you can safely freeze the majority of the food we eat, certain things will lose their taste, texture, and freshness when stored in the freezer.

Here are the foods you should avoid freezing:

1. Products that contain cream

source

Creamy foods such as sour cream, yoghurt, and dips will split when frozen and then thawed. To keep the consistency of these products as it should be, avoid freeze them!

2. Gravy

source

Since cornstarch or flour is used to thicken the gravy, it, too, will split when frozen. Have your gravy while it’s hot!

3. Whole Eggs

You should never freeze a whole (still in shell) eggs!

4. Soft Cheeses

source

Although harder cheeses such as cheddar or parmesan are fine to freeze, soft cheeses like cream cheese, goat cheese or ricotta should never be frozen.

5. Cooked Pasta

source

If youve ever tried to warm up an old frozen pasta, you would have noticed how soggy it gets once warmed up. If you must freeze pasta, ensure its cooked al dente(only 3 min).

6. Water-Based Fruits & Veggies

High water content fruits or vegetables such as cucumbers, watermelons, celery, etc, will go very soggy when frozen and thawed.

7. Fried Foods

source

I’ve never been able not to eat fried food until it’s finished, so I can’t understand why anyone would want to freeze it. Nevertheless, fried food also turns very soggy when warmed up.

8. Milk

Technically milk can be frozen, but it tends to become lumpy when thawed.
