Meet 82-Year-Old Ernestine Shepherd who was born on June 16th, 1936, in Baltimore, Maryland. Ernestine started exercising only after she turned 56 years young!
Ernestine typical day starts at 2:30 am when she begins with her daily devotionals and meditation, followed by a high protein breakfast and a morning jog. Ernestine goes to the gym around 7:30am where she does some weight lifting and goes on to teaching workout classes until 11:30 am. She then heads back home for lunch, a quick nap, and some alone time with her husband. Later on, Ernestine gets back to the gym where from around 5:30 pm to 7 pm she trains people of all ages.
Ernestine explained that it was her sister’s Velvet idea that they should “try and get into the Guinness Book of World Records as the oldest bodybuilding sisters in the world!”
Sadly, Ernestine sister Velvet passed away soon after she and Ernestine began their fitness campaign from a brain aneurysm, but she made a promise to continue their goal to write her name down into the Guinness Book of World Records.
After a short struggle with depression and developing high blood pressure, Ernestine knew she had to honor her promise to her sister and her memory by regaining her health. Soon after she ended up in the Guinness Book of World Records as the oldest bodybuilder anywhere in the world.
When she was asked what her true secret of success, she said ‘never give up.’
Remember, life is too short not to do all the things you’ve always wanted to do. Stay motivated, be happy and healthy, and NEVER GIVE UP!
