Psychologists Suggest Mothers Should Take Breaks By Going On Mom-Cations

March 25, 2019 By Mike Thurstone

Have you ever heard of the word mom-cation?

This is a merged word from vacation and mother, and it is defined as mothers taking breaks. All of us share the same opinion that mothers need breaks sometimes.

Experts agree on the fact that when you are a mother, you have a lot on your plate; for instance, you worry about your financial state and plan your activities during the day.

Mothers feel exhausted because they don’t get the rest they need. Therefore, in the opinion of many psychologists, mothers have to go on mom-cations.

Moms Should Take Breaks, Psychology Says

Every mother should be aware that taking a mom-cation can help in improving her well-being. It is not selfish to make some “me time”. Experts say that taking a mom-cation can also be useful for the rest of the family. As stated by Dr Nava Silton, psychology professor, “it’s very important for kids to see that balance that ideally needs to be achieved in a family situation”.

Motherhood is not only having or raising a child, but it also involves washing clothes, be present on all of the school activities, planning the events during the day, making meals and so on.

Many moms are easy-going regarding the fact that they will leave all things behind for a few days; however, everyone should understand that taking a mom-cation will do well for moms.

They always worry if their children are eating as much as they should, if they are sleeping, popping, learning and so on. Maybe it is impossible to stop worrying about all these things, but mothers should give it a try for the sake of the family.

Mothers can get breaks in many ways; having a fully developed vacation is not so easy to organise because of lack of time and financial restraints. Here are some ideas on how to get a mom-cation:
Start with one morning off in a week.

When you are a mother, you know that for weekends you are occupied continuously with your children; thus have one morning during the week in order to recharge your batteries. You can go shopping, visit a yoga class, get a manicure, or lie down and read a book. Do whatever you want to regain your strength and energy.

Once in a month, have one day for yourself. Almost all mothers are always thinking of what has to be done next; thus, they have planned activities for the rest of the day. Therefore, it is of great significance to have one day when they are not worrying about anything and when they can finally relax and have fun.

Try not to do housework every day. It needs much effort to be able to stay away from washing the clothes, doing the dishes, cleaning the bathroom, and other household chores. However, if you succeed to have days when you won’t do these things you will have time for other creative or inventive things.

It is up to you whether you can organise yourself and have a mom-cation. It is crucial to have a healthy lifestyle and to enjoy at home, but it is also essential to take a few days away from everyday chores. This year, you should save some money and time and get a mom-cation where you can have a few quiet and calm days.

When mothers come back from their mom-cations, they are relaxed and full of energy. One of them says, “I came back, and I was a better mom. A more patient mom. A better wife. You learn to appreciate what you have at home because you got that break from it all”. Even taking two days can do wonders for your sanity. You should try it!
