Morgan Freeman Converted His 124 Acre Ranch Into a Giant Bee Sanctuary to Help Save the Bees

February 5, 2019 By Mike Thurstone

Morgan Freeman is undoubtedly one of the most loved and respected celebrities, adored by both the young and old. He is a seasoned actor, filmmaker, and director, but recently he is being praised for his participation in helping to revive the bee population.

Statistically speaking, one in three bites of food we put in our mouth today is in direct relation of the hard-working honeybee. Grievously, bees are dying off at a rather alarming rate. Bee lovers around the world are doing everything they possibly can to revive the bee population by planting flowers to petitioning their governments against usage of pesticides that are killing the bees.

It wasn’t Freeman’s sweet tooth that made him take action but instead a direct response to the mass bee die-offs that have been threatening their existence.

Recognising that bees play an integral part in the preservation of our ecosystem, Morgan stated:

“There’s a concerted effort to bring bees back onto the planet … We do not realize that they are the foundation, I think, of the growth of the planet, the vegetation… I have so many flowering things and I have a gardener too.

Because she takes care of the bees too, all she does is figure out, ‘OK, what would they like to have?’, so we’ve got acres and acres of clover, we’re planting stuff like lavender, I’ve got like, maybe 140 magnolia trees, big blossoms,” he adds.

“I’ve not ever used [the beekeeping hat] with my bees,” he says. “They haven’t (stung me) yet, because right now I’m not trying to harvest honey or anything, I’m just feeding them… I think they understand, ‘Hey, don’t bother this guy, he’s got sugar water here.”

Well done Morgan Freeman, I have one hive in our backyard (? we only have .5 of an acre ) but all our garden is bee friendly in the way of natural plants. You rock.
