One of the best ways to take care of your health is through your eating habits.
But as necessary as it is to know about the benefits of certain foods, it’s even more so to understand the risks associated with what you eat.
Processed and industrialised foods are much worse than any foods that come directly from nature, but even so, some natural foods can have some serious health implications.
An excellent example of this is the lychee, delicious fruit with numerous health benefits.
Lychees are rich in vitamins, help strengthen your skin, hair, and nails, and also have both anti-inflammatory and antioxidant characteristics.
Lychees can also help you with weight loss. Plus, they contribute to the health of your heart, regulate your intestines, improve digestion, and strengthen your immune system.
Although they may have all these advantages, lychees have caused hundreds of children to die in India over the past 20 years.
Both American and Indian experts have examined and tried to find out what was causing the deaths and concluded that it was a substance called hypoglycin which keeps our body from producing sugar.
In extreme cases, it can cause your blood sugar levels to lower considerably, leading to excessive fatigue, dizziness, memory loss, drowsiness, and even death.
Since the kids were consuming lots of lychees on an empty stomach, their blood sugar levels decreased alarmingly fast, leaving them exposed to the adverse effects of the fruit.
In order to avoid these effects, the best thing to do is to avoid eating more than 300 grams of lychee a day to prevent these negative implications.
On top of that, always wash your fruit very well before eating it, and never do so on an empty stomach.
If you experience any allergic reaction after eating this fruit, or if you suffer from diabetes or hypoglycemia, don’t eat it at all.
