Most people around us, tend to be judgmental and take the measure of a person from their physical size and age. Time and time again, several resourceful children have been proving such people wrong.
In one such story, nine year old Pavel Abramov sells custom pet paintings to fund animal shelters. Pavel and his mother Ekaterina Bolshakova are residents of the Russian city of Arzamas. A short time ago, Pavel had lost his beloved pet ‘Barisk’.
In order to cope up with this loss, young Pavel’s ingenious mind came up with an idea of helping animals living in an animal shelter. But he soon stumbled upon a major obstacle, the lack of funding.

To generate money to help shelter animals, Pavel decided to put his artistic talents to work. Under the title of ‘Kind Paintbrush’, the project was started.
Pavel makes contracts with pet owners to draw custom portraits of their pets, in exchange for support to dogs, cats and other animals housed in an animal shelter. He doesn’t expect or want any kind of financial benefit at the end of the exchange.

He cares only about the stray and uncared animals who are made to live in shelters. Moreover, each of his custom made painting is a statement in itself. The young artist is quite gifted for a nine year old. His paintings have become a great hit in the entirety of Russia. Pavel also takes care to spend time with pet owners and learn more about other’s pets.

He loves to know the rescue stories of various pets and how they came into the hands of the current owners.
Pavel and his mother manage a page, ‘What is a little volunteer capable of?’ in the Russian social networking platform VK. It explains the kind of work, Pavel does in order to help animals. This being said, Pavel is the youngest volunteer at the animal shelter in the city of Arzamas.

Pavel’s paintings have become very popular. Pet owners from other countries like Germany, Spain have contacted Pavel and commissioned him to do paintings of their pets. Pavel and his mother do not have any external support, employees, managers etc. It is only them and their benefactors. Paintings made by Pavel have been exchanged for large amounts of food and medicine.

The shelter for which, Pavel works so hard houses about 100 dogs. To meet the constant needs of the shelter, Pavel sells more paintings to pet owners in exchange of the required supplies.

For a volunteer, who is a mere child, Pavel is doing a wonderful job. But like other boys of his age, Pavel has other jobs like school to attend.
He plans on being an architect. He aspires to build an animal shelter all by himself in the future. There is nothing more we can do, other than saluting this little hero.
If you are a pet lover/owner, feel free to contact Pavel and get a painting of your own pet done, to support Pavel’s cause.
