These plates are edible and biodegradable. A company called Biotrem uses wheat bran to make disposable cutlery and tableware.
The company claims that its products are an excellent alternative for any environmentally friendly individuals who want to make a mark in a world where pollution and plastic are a major problem in any society.
Making these wheat bran plates requires fewer mineral resources and less water. As an example, they say that ‘one pound of pure wheat bran can make 10,000 units of plates and bowls.’
Paper takes around six months to become, and plastic can stay unchanged for centuries. In comparison, it will take only 30 days for a Bioterm plate, bowl, or cutlery to completely biodegrade.
The company says that its plates and bowls also microwave safe, they can be used in serving hot or cold food and even be used for cooking in ovens.
And… did we mention that they are edible too?
Biotrem hopes that their tableware will help decrease pollution and the strain of resources on our planet.
