Before you go ahead and treat your self with a bottle of a cab from California, you should be aware that you will most likely be sipping on a significant helping of Monsanto’s infamous Roundup herbicide.
According to GMA awareness group Moms Across America, who sent ten bottles of California wine for testing at the Inotech Lab in St.Louis, all returnt positive results for glyphosate.
All the products tested came from the ” Wine Country” region across the northern coastal region of California — Napa Valley, Sonoma and Mendocino counties.
The results returned 28 times higher contamination in conventional wine than organic wine, with levels ranging from .659 parts per billion in organic bottles to 18.74 parts per billion in conventional wine bottles.
2013 Cabernet Sauvignon returned the highest level of glyphosate produced in a conventional, chemically-farmed vineyard. 2013 Syrah had the lowest contamination from a biodynamic and organic vineyard that had never been sprayed (according to the owner). A second 2012 mixed red wine had .913 ppb of glyphosate.
German experts have determined that even .1 ppb of glyphosate, which is
patented as an antibiotic, has an incredibly negative effect on beneficial gut bacteria and increase the proliferation of pathogenic gut bacteria. The gut bacteria are accountable for 70% of the immune system.
Another worrying fact shows that as little as .1 part per trillion of glyphosate stimulates the growth of breast cancer cells.
The World Health Organization lists glyphosate as a “probable carcinogen,” while the State of California recently listed glyphosate to a list of “known carcinogens.”
According to the California Department of Pesticide Register, of the 57,000 pounds of glyphosate/Roundup used in Napa County in 2013, almost 50,000 pounds were applied on vineyards.
According to the California Department of Health, breast cancer rates are 10 to 20 per cent higher in Napa, Sonoma and Mendocino counties, than the national average.
It is suggested that due to airborne drift of Roundup/glyphosate that the majority of vineyards in these three counties use it contaminates the nearby organic crops as well.
