Attending A Concert Once Every Two Weeks Can Add Nine Years To Your Life, Study Claims

February 12, 2019 By Mike Thurstone

Who doesn’t like attending a good concert? Whether you’re seeing Michael Buble, Bruno Mars or even The Presidents of the United States, people always seem to enjoy at these big gatherings.

However, there’s a good reason for such enjoyment; concerts are fun social events where you meet new people that share similar tastes in music like you. Sure you end up with blown eardrums and you might have one too many, but the fact stands, you are happy, and you had a great time.

These large gatherings are so full of fun that there are really few things in life that can equal the pure happiness of singing the song of your favorite album in chor with the rest of the people.

You might be surprised to know that going to these adrenaline rush activities can actually be quite healthy for you. A recent study conducted by O2, experts, discovered that not only can attending concerts make you happier, but these shows can also have the potential to make you healthier and significantly extend your lifespan. (1)

Attending Concerts Can Lengthen Lifespan

Behavioral scientist Patrick Fagan headed the study at Goldsmith’s University where it was determined that after only twenty minutes at a concert the well-being factor increased by a whopping 21%! This is a significantly higher number than doing yoga or walking your dog for instance, which are thought to be around 10% and 7% retrospectively. (1)

If that fact wasn’t convincing enough, here’s the real deal: frequently attending concerts can lengthen your lifespan by an unbelievable nine years!

This is excellent news for people who love spending time with their friends and family while enjoing good music, but it’s also great advice for people who strive to find happiness.

The study noted the fact that in addition to improved feelings of well-being, going to concerts helps boost feelings of self-worth and the feeling of being close to other people by 25%! On top of that, mental stimulation was recorded to have risen by an incredible 75%! (1)

Concerts = Perfect Pick-Me-Up.

Therefore, if you’re feeling a little sad, it might be a good idea to go to that upcoming Bruno Mars concert. Who knows? It might just be enough to pick you up and give you the boost you need. The evidence doesn’t lie, after all.

When discussing the outcome of his work, scientist Patrick Fagan said: “Our research showcases the profound impact gigs have on feelings of health, happiness and wellbeing; with fortnightly or regular attendance being the key. Combining all of our findings with O2’s research, we arrive at a prescription of a gig a fortnight which could pave the way for almost a decade more years of life.” (1)

Backed Up By Science

For those who still find it hard to believe in the study, its important to note that this is not the first time scientists tried to find the link between the feeling-good effect of people attending concerts (2) It would seem that shows are merely a great and healthy way for people to socialise with each other and prolong their lives. The key to noticing the effects of the study is regular attendance at lively concerts.

A great time to be alive!
