What makes a person great? Is it just his or her capacity to perform the role of a lifetime? Is it ones ability to entertain the public with an unmatched charm? Well, if you ask Keanu Reeves it’s all of the above plus the power and willingness to help back to others.
Keanu Reeves was labelled one of Hollywood’s most respected actors and individuals and for a good reason. Reeves, who has been struck by a series of tragedies himself, is one of the most giving and unselfish actors today. While earning his movie-made wealth, Keanu does not care about owning big mansions but cares to help children rather.
What many don’t know is that Keanu has secretly founded a charity which concentrates on funding children hospitals all across America. Away from the spotlight, Reeves insisted on helping cancer sufferers ever since 1991, after his sister was diagnosed with leukemia. In 1999, Kim Reeves had successfully battled the condition.
“I love Kim,” Keanu explains in a 1999 interview. “She’s so brave, and I want the very best for her. You can star in hit movies, but that’s nothing compared to going through what Kim’s been through.”
“Keanu helped me so much through my illness,” Kim said of her brother in the same interview.
“When the pain got really bad, he would sit with me and hold my hand, and keep the ‘bad man’ from making me dance. He was supporting me and comforting me all the time, even when he was away.”
After ten years Keanu finally opened up about working with a charity foundation that helps children fighting cancer.
“I have a private foundation that’s been running for five or six years, and it helps aid a couple of children’s hospitals and cancer research. I don’t like to attach my name to it, I just let the foundation do what it does,” Keanu said in a interview.
However, this is not the only charitable character Keanu has been a part of. The actor has helped many families across the country and has acted on his own by donating and making sure no one is left behind. You might be wondering how didn’t Keanu become to be one of the favourite faces of charity?
Well, as one of the partners in the movie Chain reaction states that Keanu appreciates his staff. In her words, Keanu bough meals for everyone on set, including the general workers. Later, there was an occasion where Reeves gave an employee on the set of Matrix staggering $20,000 just because he was facing some family issues.
Another story comes from a woman who was offered a 50-mile ride by Reeves after her car broke down. As she explained, Keanu even gave her his contact number in case she needed further help and behaved like a true gentleman in the process.
Stories of Reeves gifting the crew working on the Matrix movies with a Harley Davidson each proved his genuine nature. Keanu waited for Christmas break and stunned his entire team with a motorcycle of their own.
Known for his big love for dogs, Keanu was no stranger to cuddling with other people’s dogs and displaying his great love for all pets.
Keanu Reeves marks one of those actors who does not want the spotlight but try to learn more about regular people. He has been seen socialising with homeless people trying to comfort them as much as he can. Besides, he likes taking the subway and also does not mind walking barefoot in the streets.
As an actor, colleague and a nurturer, Reeves have reportedly accepted to receive a smaller pay when making the Matrix, just so more people can work on the film.
Always avoiding scandals, Reeves has always been in the presence of women, and still got their affection and gratitude in return. A chauffeur Ronny Sunshine who once had the chance to drive Keanu, says the actor is always chill mood and quite patient.
“Keanu was really patiently waiting,” the driver stated. “I don’t think he said anything to the bouncer, like, ‘I’m Keanu.’ No one recognized him.”
And if the above stories story doesn’t prove you that Reeves is an angel sent from heaven, the following story might do just that. Club owner Noel Ashman first met Keanu waiting to enter one of his clubs and noted, “I didn’t know he was kept waiting, and he didn’t say anything to me. He’s a very relaxed person.”
Even when inside, Keanu made the day better after going up to the DJ booth to find a man who had lost his credit card in the club earlier. I mean, what a great person, right?
