It is well known that viral infectious diseases and their signs and symptoms affect our lives. They can be irritating and cause discomfort.
“Symptoms of a common cold usually appear one to three days after exposure to a cold-causing virus. Signs and symptoms, which can vary from person to person, might include:
- Runny or stuffy nose
A sore throat - Congestion
A cough
Slight body aches or a mild headache
Sneezing
Low-grade fever
Generally feeling unwell (malaise)”
In spite of the fact that there is no actual treatment for these diseases, drinking a little whiskey may help you in soothing the symptoms.
For instance, the mixture of lemon juice, honey, whiskey, and hot water does wonders for the colds in winter. It will calm your body and improve your state of being congested.
Dr William Schaffner works at Vanderbilt University Medical Center as a chair of preventive medicine, and he explains:
“The alcohol dilates blood vessels a little bit, and that makes it easier for your mucus membranes to deal with the infection.”
However, be careful regarding the amount of alcohol. A little of it can help you but if you drink more than is normal you will dehydrate. Of course, this is not what you want to achieve. Whenever you are drinking alcohol, it is advised you drink much water.
